Frequently Asked Questions - General
1. General
Where can I use WordLogic?
You can use WordLogic to predict words and phrases in any application where you can enter text.
I am already a fast typist – why would I want to use WordLogic at all?
WordLogic is still very useful even for faster typists. We never intended for every word you type to be selected from the list of predictions. However, keeping WordLogic in the background and using it only to select larger words WILL increase your typing speed, especially after you become more familiar with how prediction works.
WordLogic truly shines when you need to enter any ‘custom’ information: names of people and places, addresses, and any frequently used phrases or strings of repetitive text.
In addition, running WordLogic still allows you to have a quick spell-checking notification in any application, and provides you with access to the calculator, and Web Portal.
Does WordLogic affect the way my keyboard works?
WordLogic is designed not to interfere with your use of the keyboard. It monitors what you are typing, but doesn't change the behaviour of any of the keys. The WordLogic window becomes active only when you hold down a key or the Spacebar.
What is the difference between the software on the CD and the software on the USB drive?
The software is the same, but the CD version is designed to be installed and run on one PC desktop. The USB drive contains a standalone version, which allows you to run WordLogic on any PC without having to install it.
2. Using WordLogic
How do I access the WordLogic Keyboard when it is hidden?
As you would do it any other time to activate the WordLogic window - by holding down any alphanumeric key or the Spacebar. You can change the display options using Options Windows Behaviour.
3. Prediction
When is the prediction reset?
Prediction is reset (that is, the program thinks you are about to start typing a completely new word or phrase) every time you enter a Tab, use the Return key, or switch between application windows. In the words-only version, the prediction also resets after each space.
Can I reset the prediction in order to combine words or part of words?
You can enforce resetting the prediction by holding down the Spacebar and hitting the Backspace key. This will ensure that the prediction is reset.
4. Dictionary Management
Can I view or edit the contents of the WordLogic dictionaries?
At this moment, the user has no access to viewing/editing the contents of the default WordLogic dictionaries. You can add words and phrases that will be added to your Personal Dictionary, and you can remove these additions later (please refer to the manual for more information on how to do it).
We are planning to implement the view/edit dictionary feature in the near future.
Can I use WordLogic to store and predict paragraphs?
You can use WordLogic to store and retrieve several lines of text. A good example would be one's postal address, e.g.
Baron Munchausen
1234 Lunar Road
Oceanus Procellarum
Z1X 2C3
Planet Moon
To store this address, type and then select (highlight) it in the application you are currently working. Press and hold down Ctrl-C to open the Add Word(s) from clipboard dialog box, and choose the Yes option either by using the arrow keys or the mouse.
Note that when a paragraph appears in the list of predictions, it will be straightened into one line, each line separated by a special symbol ( ).
What is the longest word or phrase I can add to the Personal Dictionary?
The maximal supported length of the word or phrase you can add is 150 characters, including spaces.
How many languages does WordLogic support?
Presently, only the English language dictionary is supplied with the Desktop version of WordLogic. We are working diligently on other languages and plan to release them in the nearest future. We also develop custom professional dictionaries (e.g. medical, legal, etc.)
5. Conflicts
Sometimes WordLogic does not predict, or the word it uses as the basis for prediction is not what I have typed
Keep in mind that WordLogic is not your usual text editor. It only keeps track of the most recent characters you type. If you decide to use the mouse to navigate to different sections of your text, WordLogic will not reset the prediction. Therefore, if you, for example, decide to go back a few lines and correct previously entered text, WordLogic will assume that you are simply continuing to type, using the latest word typed as the base for prediction.
Are there any known technical conflicts with other software?
If you use Windows XP, pressing the SHIFT key repeatedly to make quick selections from the Prediction List can activate Microsoft’s “Sticky Keys” function (see http://www.microsoft.com/enable/training/windowsxp/stickykeys.aspx). Having this feature activated will interfere with the behaviour of WordLogic.
