Getting Started
The basic function of the WordLogic Predictive Keyboard is to assist you with entering text on your mobile device. It works with any PocketPC application. Start typing by tapping keys on the digital keyboard with your stylus and WordLogic will predict letters, words and phrases in parallel.
This is what your screen might look like when you start:

The WordLogic keyboard is designed to sit in ¾ of the screen - either on the right or left, depending on your handedness. You can change which hand the keyboard is set for in the Options. By reducing the size of the keyboard, you can easily reach each of the keys without moving your hand from the side of the device. This reduces strain on your wrist and arm and increases your entry speed substantially.
Additional symbols, numbers and control modes can be found in the “sub-panels” at the top of the keyboard. They are marked SYM, NUM and CTL respectively. Just click on the label and a new keyboard will open on the side. Note that you need to close these panels when you want to see the list of predicted words and phrases again.

As you start typing, you will see two things happening. First, the letters on the digital keyboard will be highlighted in green or red. Second, a list of words or phrases will appear to the left of the keyboard. The list to the left of the keyboard is called the “Prediction List”.
Specal Symbols
At the bottom of the condensed keyboard you will see a special key marked “àü”. By pressing this key you will open up the “special characters” keyboard.
From here you will be able to select a number of internationally used characters, including those with accents (á, û, ǒ) . If you have non-English version of WordLogic, your keyboard will already have some of these symbols on it, but this key allows you to access all the other ones.
Letter Prediction
To aid users that are not familiar with the layout of the QWERTY keyboard, WordLogic predicts the next five most likely letters to follow what has been typed, and highlights them on the screen. As you type in your words, you will find that WordLogic is highlighting the next letter you will need in either green or red. When you are about to type a letter highlighted in red, it indicates that the word you are typing is very likely already showing in the Prediction List.
You can use letter prediction to rapidly type until your word is predicted. Just focus on typing letters until the keyboard letters change to red, and then look at the Prediction List - chances are your word is there and you can quickly select it.

Prediction List
The Prediction List is the list of predicted words and phrases that appears to the left (when using it in right-handed mode) of the keyboard.
The Prediction List is the list of predicted words and phrases that appears to the left (when using it in right-handed mode) of the keyboard. You will note that some of the shown words and phrases are followed by an ellipsis (…). This indicates that this word/phrase is a WordChunk™. A WordChunk™ is a word that is the root (base) for other possible words. Even though WordLogic is only showing you five words or phrases at a time, WordChunks™ actually provide access to hundreds of words and phrases. See the Gesturing section for how to access those other words and phrases.
To select a word or phrase from the Prediction List, just select it with your stylus. It will be entered into your application as if you had typed it yourself. With this powerful prediction engine, WordLogic enables you to quickly enter information on your PocketPC with minimal effort.
Sliding
While working with the WordLogic keyboard you may also want to take advantage of its “sliding” capabilities. Sliding consists of holding your stylus on a key and then quickly moving it in one of four directions: up, down, left or right before letting the stylus go. Depending on which direction you go, WordLogic will perform a specific action for you. If you slide upward from a key, WordLogic will capitalize the letter you were on for you without you needing to use the shift keys. If you slide down, WordLogic will act as though you pushed the “Enter” key. If you slide to the right, WordLogic will enter a space. Finally, if you slide to the left, it will act as though you pushed the “Backspace” key. Sliding can accelerate your typing by reducing the amount of time you need to move your hand to the edges of the keyboard to shift or enter a new line.
Gesturing
At any time while you are typing, you can hold the stylus down on the screen and after a short delay the WordLogic keyboard will switch into “Gesturing” mode – similar to what is shown in the diagram below.
 |
Fig. 4: Entering Gesturing mode |
Gesturing will work from any of the letter keys or from any of the words or phrases in the Prediction List. Whatever you choose - where it be the letter “g” or the WordChunk™ “good…” - will be used as the basis of the gesturing.
The idea behind Gesturing is you would move your hand in an arc using only your wrist to select words from the offered list. As you move your stylus, a word will be highlighted; if you stop moving, that word or phrase will be selected as the next root for gesturing. You will hear a short beep whenever the next root is selected. Any time you make a mistake, just move your stylus to the “BACK” key while holding down, and you will revert to the previous root. You can leave the gesturing mode at any time by lifting the stylus. Whichever root was selected when you did so will be entered into your application.
Once you get used to Gesturing, you will find that you can enter complex words and phrases in a short amount of time and with almost no effort. For example, entering the word “government-sponsored” would usually require typing 20 characters on a regular keyboard. With WordLogic all you need to do is hold-down on the letter “g” and make only 4 gestures - you will have entered it completely in less than a second. This powerful feature is unique to WordLogic.
Adding and Deleting Words
In addition to the powerful standard dictionaries available with WordLogic, you have the option of adding words into your own personal dictionary. As you type, you might find that WordLogic is no longer highlighting keys nor predicting. This usually indicates that you have either made a spelling error, or you are typing a word WordLogic does not currently know. When you complete the unknown word and enter a space, you will see a question mark icon appear on the side of the keyboard (Fig. 5).

The icon indicates that WordLogic would like to learn the new word. If you want WordLogic to remember this word for next time, use your stylus to select the “YES” button under the request. If you do not want to store this new word, select the “NO” button instead. In the Options panel you can also set WordLogic to automatically learn words it does not know without asking you.
If a word you added to the dictionary needs to be removed, just type it in (without using the prediction features), and enter the space after it. Again, you will be prompted with the question mark icon: this time it will be asking if you wish to delete the word. To delete the word from the dictionary, press the “YES” button.
You do not need to respond to the question before continuing to type. As soon as you start entering another word, the question mark icon will disappear and WordLogic will assume that you did not want to add or delete the word in question.
Dictionaries
WordLogic comes standard with one dictionary in the language of your choice, as well as a personal dictionary you can add and delete words from. You can order additional dictionaries (including other languages, or professional dictionaries, like the dictionary of medical, legal terms etc). WordLogic can predict words from multiple dictionaries at the same time. WordLogic can support up to seven dictionaries simultaneously. In the Options panel you can decide which dictionary has priority, and in which order WordLogic should present the choices to you.
Options
To access the Options panel, go to the ^ icon in the bottom right and select it. When it opens, the lowest choice will be “Options…”. Select that, then select “WordLogic” from the top tab to see the options specific to WordLogic.
On this screen, you will be able to set the priority of the dictionaries in the upper box. To move a dictionary, select it and then use the up-arrow or down-arrow to change its relative position. WordLogic will adjust its predictions accordingly. You can also deactivate a certain dictionary here as well.
You can set the default handedness (either left or right). This will change how WordLogic appears on the screen, as the gesturing arc is different for left-handed users compared to right-handed ones.
You can also turn off the sound effects (e.g. the beep when gesturing) to make WordLogic operate in a quiet mode.
